da esport bet: Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk is thrilled by the progression of his squad over the last few months, and he may well have a point.
What’s he said?
da bwin: The Owls rose to third in the Championship following a 1-0 victory over Bristol City on Sunday afternoon.
Barry Bannan’s 85th-minute penalty was the only goal to separate the two teams at Hillsborough, moving them to within eight points of the runaway leaders in the automatic promotion spots.
It is now six games unbeaten for the south Yorkshiremen, who still face mounting uncertainty off the pitch following their EFL charge, but it hasn’t stopped them from competing on it.
In fact, the squad has shown impressive growth from just a few months ago as highlighted by the manager himself. Monk said:
“The most important thing is I am seeing the growth in the team.
“If you go back a few months, Bristol City is the type of game in the latter stages where we would maybe have been the ones to make the mistake or shoot ourselves in the foot.
“It is great to see that we are not doing that now and we have actually learned from it.
“We forced them into the mistake and got three deserved points.”
Game management mistakes
Prior to their recent rich vein of form, the Owls were struggling with one major problem. Game management. Errors late on were regularly costing the side.
At Blackburn Rovers, Wednesday threw away any form of points as they allowed the home side to come from behind to clinch the victory late on and just a week later, all three points were snatched from their grasp as Swansea City netted an equaliser with practically the last kick of the game.
It didn’t stop there either as Monk’s side would have been more than deserving of a point at league leaders West Bromwich Albion having had six more attempts on goal – an 86th-minute penalty from Charlie Austin put pay to that.
Therefore, Monk is spot on with his comments as this latest win shows that they have somewhat learned from their previous mistakes. Had this game been in November, the Robins would have probably been gifted at least one chance to snatch a point.
