da bet7: Newcastle United have reportedly sent scouts to watch one of the most exciting young talents in European football.
What’s the word?
According to The Chronicle, sources from Italy have revealed that Newcastle scouts have been watching Nicolo Zaniolo this season.
His excellent form since signing for AS Roma last summer has also caught the eye of Juventus and Real Madrid, so it seems likely that a significant figure would be needed to prise him away from Rome in the summer.
The same report claims that scouts have been keeping an eye on Parma’s Roberto Inglese.
Almiron deal blown out the water
The decision to sign Miguel Almiron in January was a game-changer for Newcastle United. At long, long last the transfer record was broken, and fleeting moments of brilliance from the Paraguayan have already pointed towards a glowing future.
Zaniolo, though, is simply on another level. Italy and Roma legend, Francesco Totti, is just one of many eulogisers who have discussed his talent in the public eye. According to BBC Sport, Totti claimed the 19-year-old “plays like a veteran” and went on to deliver a verdict that fans of the Italian national side will hope turns prophetic.
“He has explosive strength and technique, and everything it takes to become a truly great player. Don’t let him hear me though. He may yet change course and I don’t want that on my shoulders.”
It’s no surprise that Totti is scared of over-hyping the talented youngster given the huge pressure to succeed outstanding teenagers are often subjected to, but there is a huge weight of substance behind his claims.
Zaniolo is blessed with a multitude of coveted attributes including incredible quick-feet, dead-eyed composure in possession, and the versatility to operate in a handful of midfield roles.
Considering Newcastle cannot offer European football and the type of clubs Zaniolo is drawing interest from, it seems unlikely that Benitez will be able to clinch a deal.
A potential deal is likely to hinge on Mike Ashley’s endeavour to sell the club this summer, so fans won’t be holding their breath despite the exciting report.
