da brwin: Journalist Phil Hay told the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Inside Elland Road podcast that the club could sign former Sheffield Wednesday youngster George Hirst fairly cheaply in January.
da wazamba: That’s because over the summer the 19-year-old joined Belgian second division club OH Leuven, who are managed by Nigel Pearson. At the time though Leeds held a strong interest in the highly-rated striker, according to Hay, but buying from abroad will be cheaper than a direct Championship rival.
Hirst signed his first professional contract with Wedensday in March 2016 and made his first-team debut against Cambridge United in the EFL Cup in August that same year.
The 6ft 3in front man has represented England at every youth level since U17 and was in the victorious squads for the 2017 Toulon Tournament with the U20’s and the 2018 UEFA European Under-19 Championships.
Leeds would be getting a fine young footballer if they were to secure the signing of Hirst and if a bargain deal is available as Hay claims, then they could be missing a trick if they delay and lose out to Leicester, who are also interested, especially as they have stuggled this season when Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford have been injured.
So, Leeds fans, should Marcelo Bielsa make a move for Hirst in January? Have your say by voting in the poll below.
