Scholes said he confronted Nemanja Matic before the Europa League fixture. The United legend pulled the Serb aside to tell him off for attacking Andre Onana in the buildup to the first leg of the tie. The legendary former midfielder claimed that he and fellow pundit Rio Ferdinand had played against Matic a number of times, specifically during their tenures at United and Matic's spell at Chelsea.

Seeing as Scholes retired in 2013, and Matic didn't join the Blues until the following January, the statement is untrue. In fact, Ferdinand didn't play against Matic during his tenure at Chelsea either, lining up against the midfielder in a match between United and Benfica back in 2011.
WHAT PAUL SCHOLES SAID
Scholes said: "I just told him to leave our goalkeeper alone… but no that was it. He was some player Matic, he looks well. Obviously I played against him quite a few times, me and Rio when he was at Chelsea."

Do we expect players to remember every little detail from their career? Probably not. Should they brag about partisan posturing before the game? I can forgive it. But combining the forgetfulness with the hard man act wasn't a good look for the United legend. Hopefully he doesn't confect a beef with Athletic Club's midfield before the broadcast of United's Europa League semi-final tie.
