The defender is available as a free agent after he left Barcelona this summer following the expiration of his contract. United have included the 33-year-old on a three-man shortlist of candidates to help solve their problems at left-back, reports.

The former Chelsea star is one target alongside Feyenoord player David Hancko and Crystal Palace defender Tyrick Mitchell. Hancko has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, though that deal is said to have stalled, while AC Milan are also said to be interested. Mitchell, meanwhile, may be available at a cut price given he has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Palace.
