Barcelona defender Eric Garcia is closing in on signing a new long-term contract, which will keep him at the Catalan club until 2029. However, since the German coach came in, Garcia has managed to revive his career and the Spanish defender played a key role in the club's success last season.

Flick used Garcia in multiple positions in the 2024-25 campaign, starting with a defensive midfield role, which later changed to right-back once Jules Kounde picked up an injury. In the current season, he has started in all three of Barcelona's La Liga matches thus far.

According to , impressed by his versatility and his contributions with goals in crucial fixtures last season, the Blaugrana have decided to reward Garcia by offering a new five-year contract. The club were planning on the defender's contract extension since spring, however, they delayed the process due to their ongoing financial struggle. Barca, though, are expected to present the new deal by the end of this year.
