da wazamba: As reported by The Bristol Post, Celtic are in the race to sign Bristol City defender Aden Flint on deadline day.
What’s the story?
da premier bet: Celtic have had defensive problems all summer long with injuries to key stars like Dedryck Boyata, Erik Sviatchenko and Jozo Simunovic threatening to scupper their UEFA Champions League qualifying campaign. While they managed to overcome those obstacles, fans are still hoping the club can strengthen their defensive line with a deadline day signing.
The Bristol Post reckon that one such signing could be Bristol City defender Aden Flint, a 6ft 6in giant that would certainly add a presence to the Celtic team.
The paper say a £3.5m bid for the Englishman was rejected earlier this week, so the Hoops would likely have to shell out to land him, but with time running on out potential transfers, is it a price worth paying?
Who is he?
Flint isn’t exactly a household name north of the border but he’s forged a decent career for himself in the English leagues, working his way from League Two football at Swindon to becoming a regular in the Championship for Bristol City across 279 professional appearances.
As noted his height is huge, giving him the physical attributes to be a success in Scotland. Whether he has the ball playing qualities Brendan Rodgers looks for in a defender is not certain though.
He’d certainly provide depth to the Celtic back-line but does he compete for regular first-team appearances over internationalists Dedryck Boyata and Erik Sviatchenko?
Still, it’s one to track on deadline day with the Hoops expected to do some sort of business before midnight rolls around.
