Manchester United are up against Manchester City in the race for Bruno Fernandes, according to reports in Portugal.
What’s the story?
According to A Bola, the Red Devils are hoping to wrap up a deal for Fernandes.
The report claims Sporting CP are open to selling their superstar this summer, and that Man City have already offered €55m (£48.7m) for his services. However, United are happy to go as high as €70m (£62m).
Third time lucky
The last two transfer targets Manchester United have stolen from their blue neighbours are Alexis Sanchez and Fred, but Fernandes is on a totally different level.
While Alexis was reaching the end of his career and Fred was somewhat of an unknown entity, Fernandes has surely caught the eye of every top team in Europe with his performances this season.
Playing in an advanced midfield role, the 24 year-old has racked up a remarkable 32 goals and 18 assists in all competitions, falling just short of a goal involvement every single game with 50 in 53 appearances, per Transfermarkt.

With the work rate to play in a midfield three, the creativity to carve open a defence at a moment’s notice as well as superior long-distance shooting even to Paul Pogba, the Portuguese international would breathe new life into United’s midfield.
If Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ends this summer with a midfield trio of Pogba, Fernandes and a new defensive option, he will be one very happy manager.
Fernandes is going to make fans forget all about the nightmarish first full seasons of Alexis and Fred.
