David Ornstein has laid down further claims on West Ham’s pursuit of Sampdoria midfielder Ronaldo Vieira, suggesting David Sullivan is very keen on the player.
What’s he said?
The Athletic journalist suggested on Monday that the Hammers were in the chase for the former Leeds man and that his club could be willing to part company with the 21-year-old.
However, it would take a fee of around €20m (£16.9m) in order to so.
According to the initial report, Burnley are also chasing the midfield man as they look to bring him back to English football after he departed Elland Road in 2018.

But speaking on the Ornstein and Chapman Podcast (28/01/2020), the journalist had more to say on the potential transfer. He said:
“David Sullivan has been appointed contact on this proposed transfer and he is said to be very keen to bring Vieira in. David Moyes is said to be pretty keen – not fully convinced yet and that’s the case with a lot of players that Moyes brings in – he analyses a lot of videos and picks out faults. But a decision now needs to be made on this, or will West Ham look to readdress it in the summer?”
Disparity between Moyes and Sullivan
On the podcast, Ornstein also noted how that since Manuel Pellegrini and Mario Husillos left the club, it’s now just Moyes and Sullivan in charge of transfers.
Whether or not this will be a good relationship for the club remains to be seen but it is clear there is a difference in opinion and methods.
Call yourself a West Ham expert? How much did each of these January signings cost?
Sullivan is keen to land the player but it appears as though Moyes needs more time to weigh up whether a move for Vieira is the right one.
Analysing videos and picking out potential faults and positives is a good idea but with the window quickly ticking away, the Scotsman may have to make a decision very quickly – that’s if they want him in the winter.
As Ornstein says, they may look to reignite interest in the summer but the fact Moyes isn’t completely sold on a player Sullivan desperately wants to bring to the London Stadium is not a good thing for recruitment.
If the owners bring in a player who Moyes doesn’t necessarily like, it doesn’t bode well for an already fractious club.
Meanwhile, West Ham are IN THE HUNT for a right-back currently playing in the Premier League…
